Family Law prices in Wollongong
This page publishes no lawyer's fee and that is deliberate. What a family law matter costs depends on what is in dispute, whether it is agreed or contested and how many steps it takes, so only a written quote from the firm you are referred to can state a figure. What the government does publish is the court's own filing fees, set out below with the date they apply from.

Why there is no lawyer's fee here
Two reasons, and the second is a rule rather than a preference. The first is that a fair figure depends on the matter: whether parenting, property or both are in dispute, whether interim orders are needed, whether it is agreed or contested, and how many steps it takes. Only the firm you are referred to can state a figure after hearing the facts. The second is that this site is not a law practice and is not entitled to engage in legal practice, so it is in no position to tell you what any piece of legal work should cost. What the government publishes is the court's own filing fee schedule, set by the Family Law (Fees) Regulations 2022, to which GST does not apply. From 1 July 2026 the Federal Circuit and Family Court lists an application for divorce at $1,170, or $390 at the reduced fee for people who hold certain Government concession cards or can demonstrate financial hardship; an application for consent orders at $215; an initiating application for final parenting or financial orders at $455, or $740 where both are sought; and $155 for an interim order application. If a defended matter is set down for hearing, the Court lists $820 in Division 2 or $1,115 in Division 1, and $510 for a conciliation conference. Those are the Court's fees, read on its family law fees page on 25 September 2026, and not a lawyer's. The reduced divorce fee is worth checking before you file, because it is a third of the full fee.
How you get a real figure
Ask, in writing, before you engage anyone. Four things are worth asking for by name: what the total is for the work being proposed rather than an hourly rate on its own; what that total excludes; what happens to the figure if the matter turns out to be contested rather than agreed; and whether there is a charge for the first conversation. Where cost is the obstacle, the Court's find-a-lawyer page says legal advice can come from a legal aid office, a community legal centre or a private law firm, and Legal Aid NSW has an office in Wollongong.
