Two reasons, and the second is a rule rather than a preference. The first is that one firm's own rate is not a market rate. How you get a real figure
Ask, in writing, before you engage anyone. Four things are worth asking for by name: what the total is for the work being proposed rather than an hourly rate on its own; what that total excludes; what happens to the figure if the matter turns out to be contested rather than agreed; and whether there is a charge for the first conversation. Two of the ten firms here advertise a free first consultation, so it is a fair question to ask the rest.
