What family law in Wollongong actually involves

This site covers seven matters: divorce, property settlement, parenting arrangements, child support, spousal maintenance, separation and de facto relationships. They are separate legal processes. The Federal Circuit and Family Court describes divorce as "a completely separate process to financial or property proceedings", and says the granting of a divorce "does not determine issues of financial support, property division or arrangements for children".

What happens after you send it

Most people arrive not knowing which of those words describes their situation, and the seven overlap: one separation can lead to a divorce, a property settlement, parenting arrangements and child support at once. You do not have to know. Describe what has happened and the provider will tell you which of these it is. Some of them run against a clock: a property application after a marriage must be made within 12 months of the divorce becoming final, and within two years of the breakdown of a de facto relationship (the Court's financial or property overview, read 25 September 2026). Whether a limit applies to you is a question for the provider.

One thing this site will not do is give you a price. A fair figure depends on what is in dispute, whether it is agreed or contested and how far it goes, and only the firm you are referred to can state one, in writing, before you engage them. The court's own filing fees are different: they are set by regulation and are on the pricing page with the date they apply from. The first question Google shows for this search is what a family lawyer costs; the honest answer is that it is the firm's to give you, in writing.
